Create a Cause and Effect Essay Outlines

In a cause and effect essay, you could use more than one example in order to help your reader relate the cause and effect relationship. The examples should be logical and, if possible, help to illustrate both the cause and the effect. You may also use indirect examples in which both the cause and the effect occur through indirect means.

In a condition and effect essay, the essay describes or relates an event or condition through an indirect method. The indirect example can relate the event or condition to a direct example, but the example does not need to be specifically named.

For example, you might describe the condition through an example such as: "the man pulled his coat over his head because it was cold." This could be a direct example of the man pulling his coat over his head in order to avoid being cold.

In this example, you may use an indirect example that relates the condition or the man's condition to being in the rain. You could say: "The man pulled his coat over his head in order to avoid being wet, even though he was freezing from the rain."

The indirect example in this example describes the man as pulling his coat over his head because it was cold and being wet was not helping. The indirect example does not require a direct example. You could instead use a phrase such as "because he was freezing from the rain," which is similar to what he pulled his coat over his head in order to avoid being wet.

Another example would be to use a causal relationship between the condition and the effect. You might say, "Because the man pulled his coat over his head in order to avoid being wet, he experienced a bout of flu." This can be used in conjunction with another example, such as: "The man pulled his coat over his head in order to prevent the rain. "Another way to create a causal relationship is to tie an example to a hypothetical situation. In a cause and effect essay, you might say, "You pull your shirt over your head in order to avoid an embarrassing brush with the public." In this example, you have created a causal relationship between the condition and the effect, the situation and the person, the clothing and the act of pulling the shirt over your head.

Although you may find yourself using a non-specific example, the most important thing to remember is that your conclusion must relate to the cause and effect relationship between the condition and the effect. You cannot make an irrelevant argument by merely using one example. Simply put, you must relate the condition and the effect to an argument about the causes and effects.

In addition, you should think about how the example will help to explain the causal relationship. Consider that an example is not about bringing more facts to life.

While the example may be interesting, your goal in a cause and effect essay is to show how the condition and the effect are connected to each other. You should be able to clearly connect the subject of the essay to the example, showing that you are making sense of the essay.

In conclusion, a cause and effect statement is less about make sense and more about demonstrating how the two conditions and the effect are related. You want to put together a strong argument. It is important to remember that you are not trying to just "help" your reader to make sense of an essay; you are attempting to convince them that you are making sense.
